WAF Coordinator - EAST COAST REPAIR & FABRICATION LLC.
National City, CA

JOB SUMMARY:

Reviews all submitted work authorization forms (WAF) and develops same for repair activities. Trains all repair activity personnel. Ensures all repair activities meet NAVSEA Standard Item tagout and system isolation requirements. Provides guidance to Ships Force on developing system tagouts. Coordinate ECR subcontractor and government AIT work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reviews all submitted work authorization forms and develops the same for all repair activities.

Trains all ECR production personnel working on navy vessels and maintains training list for all ECR employees.

Maintains daily the WAF log during the repair availability and provides copies to the Ships Force and repair departments.

Ensures all repair activities follow guidelines set forth by NAVSEA instructions and that the safety of personnel and equipment are maintained at all times.

Helps schedule onboard work which has impact on other systems and/or work. Obtains approvals from Ships Force.

Ensures ship system tagout isolations are correct to ensure safety of personnel and equipment. Provides guidance to Ships Force for developing system tagouts.

Ensures that all work authorization permits and tagouts are completed as required.

Helps coordinate ECR subcontractor and government AIT work.

Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 8 or more years related experience in field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess superior knowledge of US Navy Combatant and Non-Combatant Vessels and Crafts.
  • Must possess a courteous, and professional demeanor
  • Must be detail oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess superior knowledge of the arrangement of US Navy vessels, system identification, marine equipment, and to a lesser extent, the operation of marine systems.
  • Possess superior knowledge of and know how to read and interpret specifications. Be able to read and interpret references to include, blueprints, Liaison Action Requests, Technical Manuals, military and commercial material specifications and standards of construction.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, or other internet search software.
  • Must be able to gain access to military installations.
  • Must pass drug test and background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and seek help with weights over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/vertical ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This is a physically demanding position and may accommodate some physical disabilities. Physical dexterity may be required when performing walk thru and inspection of job sites. In the performance of the walk thru you will be required to transverse steep stairwells, vertical ladders and bending or stooping thru tight spaces. There may be occasional lifting of materials weighing not more than 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

WORKING CONDITIONS Office and shipboard environment.

Duties of this job require the mobility to visit jobsites when required. Requires occasional climbing and lifting up to 25 lbs. Must also be able to sit for long periods of time to perform detailed review of program essential information. Occasional exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection. Must have motor coordination skills, ability to perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly, the ability to express ideas using the spoken word and perception of speech. This position works on the jobsite. There is exposure to hostile environments, loud noises, hazardous chemicals/fumes and airborne particles, smoke, extreme temperatures moving mechanical parts: high, precarious places.

During work-site visits will be required to wear appropriate PPE including, but not limited to:

Experience:

  • Ship Repair/Marine Industry: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Bidding/Estimating Commenrcia/Navy ship: 5 years (Preferred)

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • National City, CA 91950: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
